The bond between mother and daughter is something unique, and the story of Viviane and her daughter Sophia, residents of the city of Muriaé, in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, is an example. While the girl, now 10, faced leukemia, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Sophia was 5 years old when she was diagnosed with the disease, in 2018, and began treatment at the Muriaé Cancer Hospital. While still adapting to her daughter’s difficulties, Viviane’s life also changed.
Despite the initial despair, the mother said that the challenge of dealing with cancer alongside the girl helped her face her own illness. Together, they shared more than a medical story.
“When I discovered cancer, my world turned upside down, but the strength I found alongside my little Sophia was what kept me determined,” he said.
After undergoing chemotherapy sessions, both are cured and are currently undergoing periodic monitoring.
“It’s as if our bond was armor, and together, there was no challenge we couldn’t overcome”, added Viviane.
Now, little Sophia said she dreams of becoming a hematologist to take care of other patients.
