A 7th Municipal Strawberry Fair, which began on October 16th and runs until December 31st, has already recorded impressive sales. In just 13 days, more than two tons (2,058.5 kilos) of strawberries were sold, in addition to 419 cucas and 267 jars of jelly, juice and sweets made with the fruit. The fair, organized by the City Hall, Secretariat of Rural Development (SDR), Emater, Embrapa and the Pelotas Family Farmers Workers Union, has been a great success.
The vice-mayor and secretary of Rural Development, Idemar Barz, highlighted the quality of the strawberries and the variety of derived products available at the fair. Furthermore, he mentioned the attractive price of strawberries, which are being sold at R$20.00 per kilo.
Parallel to the Strawberry Fair, organizers are finalizing preparations for the 5th Strawberry Festival in Pelotas. The event will take place at Parque Morada do Sol on the 11th and 12th of November. Entry will be free on Saturday (11), from 10am to 6pm, and on Sunday (12), from 10am to 2pm. There will be a R$20.00 fee for parking.
At the Strawberry Festival, the Municipal Fair will feature the participation of 18 producers in a 200 square meter pavilion. They will be selling strawberries and strawberry products in pre-determined spaces.
