Parque da Barragem was the stage for a technical meeting aimed at the development of beekeeping in Pelotas. The event, which included the participation of the City Hall through the Secretariat of Rural Development (SDR), Emater, Federal University of Pelotas and local beekeepers, had as its main objective technical guidance and the exchange of experiences.
After the meeting in the park, participants visited the apiary of beekeeper Udo Edemar Sell, located in Monte Bonito, 9th district, where they were able to experience beekeeping activities in practice.
The vice-mayor and secretary of Rural Development, Idemar Barz, highlighted the importance of advancing beekeeping in the municipality as a way of diversifying productive activities and generating income for the primary sector. He highlighted that honey and other products derived from beehives are widely accepted in the market.
The talk at the meeting was given by the regional manager of Emater/RS Pelotas, Ronaldo Maciel. He introduced Agrossel, a recently licensed family agribusiness owned by beekeeper Udo Sell. Agrossel is monitored by the Municipal Inspection Service (SIM), linked to the SDR, which is responsible for regulating local agro-industries.
The meeting and practical activities took place on Friday afternoon (20) and were attended by the head of the Family Farming Support sector at SDR, Rejane Jorge.
