The Bota-Fora project, promoted by the Municipal Department of Urban Cleaning (DMLU) of Porto Alegre, will be collecting extra-domestic waste in 11 communities from this Tuesday, 24th, until Friday, 27th. The action takes place from 8am.
Appliances, broken furniture, mattresses, among other bulky objects can be arranged. This prevents irregularly discarded material from blocking streams, storm drains and causing flooding. The project serves regions in situations of social vulnerability, benefiting around 200 communities.
The recommendation to residents of the areas served is that materials be made available in front of homes the night before, or until 7:30 am on the day of Bota-Fora. The service is publicized through posters placed in health units, markets, schools, bars and neighborhood associations.
In addition to Bota-Fora, these materials can be disposed of directly at one of DMLU’s Destination Units (UDC). The UDCs, also called Ecopontos, receive wood, old furniture and debris and are strategically distributed throughout the city. The DMLU is part of the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Services (Smsurb).
