In the early hours of Saturday to Sunday, a leak in the water network on Rua Francelino Dias, on the corner of Rua Alfredo Carlos Ebling, in Bairro Santa Teresa, resulted in an interruption in the water supply in several neighborhoods in São Leopoldo. According to the Maintenance team of the Municipal Water and Sewage Service (Semae), the leak occurred in the 500mm network that supplies water to the Santa Teresa Reservoir Complex (R1), which is currently out of supply.
The affected neighborhoods include Batista, Otacília, Fião, Cristo Rei, Padre Réus, Duque de Caxias, Cohab Duque, Monte Carlo, Santa Tereza, Jardim América, Monte Blanco, Vila Esperança, Fazenda São Borja and part of Vila Nova.
This shortage is not related to the rupture of the Avenida Imperatriz water main and there is still no forecast for the normalization of the service.
Avenida Imperatriz valve continues to operate
On Saturday afternoon, there was a rupture in the 500mm water main on Avenida Imperatriz Leopoldina, on the corner of Rua Bolivia. Initially, there were concerns that this would affect the water supply throughout the central region and in the city’s most distant and high-lying neighborhoods.
However, thanks to the installation of a valve on Avenida Imperatriz in August this year, the impact of the lack of water in the affected region was minimized. Semae was able to manage water supply with the help of this valve, alternating supply between the southern and northern regions of the municipality.
The Semae Maintenance team remains on site to carry out the necessary repairs. The repairs are expected to be completed by early afternoon this Sunday (21).
