Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS) told CNN that she should present, in the next few days, a bill to regulate electronic cigarettes in Brazil.
Thronicke has been working on preparing the project, and has heard from several entities over the past few weeks.
The matter has been under discussion in the Federal Senate since last month, when the Social Affairs Committee (CAS) held a public hearing to debate the topic.
The senator, who took the lead in the discussions, has argued that the lack of regulation generates tax waivers and the strengthening of organized crime caused by irregular commercialization that occurs in parallel.
“The lack of regulation prevents tax collection of around R$5 billion per year. Not to mention the failure to generate direct and indirect jobs, whether in agribusiness or other sectors, which could be generated by the tobacco industry, in addition to strengthening organized crime”, stated the former candidate for President of the Republic.
The idea, when presenting the project, is to put pressure on the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the Executive Branch so that production, trade and supervision of the use of the device can occur in a transparent and effective way.
