Gynecologist Patrick Bellelis, collaborator in the endometriosis sector at the Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo, highlights some points that deserve attention and care. For him, the more information they have, the better for their health.
“The menstrual cycle, endometriosis, cramps and motherhood are recurring themes throughout a woman’s life. Unfortunately, it is common for patients to be unaware of basic information about themselves, which makes prevention difficult in society as a whole”, explains the doctor.
To overcome the barriers of misinformation and establish a better relationship with your own body, enhancing your quality of life, books focused on women’s intimate health are powerful allies of quick knowledge. They are usually didactic and easy to understand.
“Of course, it is recommended to see a doctor periodically and at the slightest warning sign, but it is important for women to inform themselves and be aware of symptoms that could signal more serious illnesses, such as endometriosis”, explains Bellelis.
The doctor suggests eight useful books to better understand how the female body works:
Deep Endometriosis: What you need to know, by Marco Aurelio Pinho de Oliveira (Editora Di Livros) – Deep endometriosis is a serious and very common disease that deserves extra attention. This book contains questions and answers to the most frequently asked questions in gynecology offices. The content is distributed in five chapters, aimed at the general public and women’s health professionals.
The emotional side of endometriosis, by Lilian Donatti (Editora Appris) – The book seeks to observe the correlation between endometriosis and depression, pain perception and stress levels, reinforcing the importance of clinical care aimed at the patient’s physical and mental health.
What they never told you about your menstrual cycle, by Lara Briden (Editora Bambual) – In this book, the reader can find information about all stages of women’s hormonal health, from puberty to menopause, intensity of menstrual flows, symptoms and natural processes that can help improve women’s quality of life.
Understanding endometriosis: And how to live better with it, by Gisely Monteiro and Tamires de Lima – The author talks about the theories behind the emergence of endometriosis, symptoms and appropriate forms of treatment. The material is based on scientific studies and also talks about how food can make everyday life easier with the disease, as well as practical recipes.
E-book – Making endometriosis easier, by Patrick Bellelis – The author addresses the main aspects of endometriosis, such as diagnosis, surgical treatment, physiotherapy, nutrition, sexuality, infertility, pregnancy and well-being. The objective of the e-book is to educate women, in an accessible way, about the main risks, doubts and solutions to combat the harm of endometriosis.
Functional nutrition in women’s health, by Ana Paula da Silva, Bruna Ferreira, Juliana da Rocha and Natalia Gonçalves (Editora Atheneu) – The book talks about nutrition based on a woman’s physiological needs, taking into account different moments throughout life, such as menarche, fertile period, pregnancy and menopause. Paying attention to your diet can prevent and help treat diseases such as endometriosis.
