The Government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) wants to review the tax exemption granted to a series of medicines in 2021, during the Covid-19 pandemic. The announcement was made by vice-president Geraldo Alckmin.
According to the Minister of Industry and Commerce, only ten types of medicines should maintain the tax advantage.
“During the pandemic, it was justified to eliminate the import tax to avoid the risk of shortages or shortages,” said Alckmin
Yesterday (27), he participated in a forum held by the pharmaceutical company EMS with the business group Esfera Brasil, in Brasília (DF).
With the end of the pandemic, Alckmin said he considers that there is no longer any reason to keep the tax at zero: “The Ministry of Health sent us the list of 400 items. It should be around 10 at most. We will return to the situation before the pandemic.”
According to the vice president, the Lula Government wants to comb the tax exemptions granted.
