This Tuesday (19/9), the governor of Rio Grande do Sul Eduardo Leite authorized the beginning of the process of expropriation of areas in Roca Sales and Muçum, municipalities affected by the flooding of the Taquari River. The measure aims to provide temporary housing for families affected by the natural disaster and who are still in a vulnerable situation.
The Department of Housing and Land Regularization (Sehab) will be responsible for conducting the expropriation process, which will begin after the publication of the authorizing decree. This process will be strictly monitored by the State Attorney General’s Office (PGE), ensuring that all legal procedures are carried out in an appropriate and transparent manner.
“The governor authorized, this Tuesday, that the State government use its own resources to expropriate areas in Roca Sales and Muçum. The objective is to guarantee space for the construction of temporary housing for people who are homeless”, explained vice-governor Gabriel Souza, who coordinates the actions of the crisis office in Vale do Taquari. “It is a measure built together with municipalities to provide a safe and suitable place for families who lost their homes. The process is already underway through the integrated work of several departments.”
The expropriated areas will be used for the construction of temporary housing, seeking to serve families who are still in shelters or are staying in the homes of relatives and friends.
The Civil Construction Industry Union (Sinduscon-RS) will play a fundamental role in this process, mobilizing companies in the civil construction sector to collaborate with the donation of materials and expertise in the construction of temporary housing.
Technicians from Sehab, representatives from the Public Works Secretariat (SOP) and Sinduscon carried out a technical visit to the cities of Muçum and Roca Sales on the same day as the announcement, with the aim of identifying the areas that will be expropriated.
Initially, construction will begin in Roca Sales and Muçum, due to the greater severity of the consequences of the flooding in these municipalities. However, the partnership between the state government and the private sector will ensure that temporary housing units are made available to all cities affected by the floods. The number of dwellings will be defined based on surveys of the number of families affected in each location.
The construction process of temporary housing will be carried out in stages, prioritizing the groups most in need. Construction methods will be focused on agility, ensuring that families have access to decent housing conditions as quickly as possible.
