Start of the tests
The 29th Farroupilha de Canoas Week started with a lot of adrenaline and excitement at the Cancha de Tiro de Laço, in Parque do Gaúcho, located in Parque Eduardo Gomes (Parcão), in the Fátima neighborhood. This Friday morning (15), the roping competitions in the Vaqueano, Veterano and Patrão modalities began the Rodeo Campeiro, which continues until Sunday (17) with several attractions.
The first trophies were won by Roberto Amorin, 73 years old, from Piquete Laçadores da Amizade de Nova Santa Rita, who won the Laço Vaqueano and Veterano categories. “I dedicate my life roping in rodeos throughout our Rio Grande. I’ve been participating in rodeo events for 40 years,” he said. The Veteran’s Tie also went to Lutero Antônio Rodrigues, 65 years old, from Dom Pedrito. Vaqueano also included Antônio Almeida, 74 years old, from the Estância Velha neighborhood, in Canoas. 1st place in the Laço Patrão category went to Elbio Fontoura, 67 years old, from the Rio Branco neighborhood.
Weekend schedule
On Saturday (16), the competitions start at 8 am and on Sunday (17), at 7 am, and continue until midnight, with the Gineteada and Vaca Parada tests. The grand final of the Farroupilha Cup, a doubles sport that will begin the competition on Saturday, will award the winners on Sunday. “Our expectation is to have more than 300 participants from all over Rio Grande do Sul”, declared Igor Scherdien, director of the 12th Traditionalist Region of the State and responsible for the rodeos during the 29th Farroupilha de Canoas Week.
In addition to the Farroupilha Cup, the Inclusive Rodeo will be held this Saturday, starting at 12pm, which will feature the participation of people with disabilities. At 2pm, the Individual Laço modality will take place.
Solidarity
With the aim of helping families affected by the strong storms that hit the State in recent days, a campaign to collect non-perishable food will be carried out throughout the 29th Farroupilha de Canoas Week. Donations can be delivered to the collection point at AETC headquarters.
