This Saturday (16), the Symphony Orchestra of Porto Alegre (OSPA) presents the concert “The Bird of Fire”, performed by four women who are references in their fields. The orchestra will be conducted by the Italian Teresa Satalino. To perform a work by Carl Maria von Weber, Ospa welcomes French bassoonist Sophie Dervaux. Another piece, by Richard Strauss, will bring together on stage, as soloists, Ospa bassoonist Ange Bazzani and Ospa clarinetist Ariane Rovesse. The presentation takes place at 5pm, at the OSPA House.
Sophie Dervaux, internationally recognized young soloist and bassoon soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic, arrives in Porto Alegre this week to perform the solo of the “Concerto for Bassoon in F Major”, by Carl Maria Von Weber (1786 – 1826). The composition, from 1811, has theatrical traits, virtuosic moments and explores, especially in its last movement, the dramatic capacity of the bassoon.
The Ospa will be conducted by Teresa Satalino, who has collaborated with orchestras such as the Concertgebouw and the Teatro alla Scala orchestra.
Bassoon soloist at Ospa, Ange Bazzani values the emphasis given to the four women in this concert. This Saturday, in addition to performing as a soloist, she also talks with the public about the concert’s repertoire before the start of the presentation. The lecture, part of the Concert Notes series, takes place at 4pm, in the Recitais Room.
Alongside the award-winning musician from Minas Gerais, Ariane Rovesse, who has been part of the clarinet group at Ospa since 2022, Ange is a soloist in the “Dueto Concertante para Clarinet e Fagote”, by Richard Strauss (1864 – 1949). The work, from 1947, is based on the “Odyssey”, by Ho
In the second part of the concert, the soloists leave the stage and the Orchestra turns to two works from the 20th century. First, OSPA performs “Orawa”, by the Polish composer Wojciech Kilar (1932 – 2013), composer who signed some of the most influential film scores, such as “Dracula”, “The Pianist” and “Schindler’s List”. Premiered in 1986, “Orawa” is a piece for strings in which the composer maintains an atmosphere of tension from beginning to end. Kilar was inspired by the folklore of the mountainous region of his home country.
To close the concert, the Orchestra performs “The Firebird”, the first ballet that emerged from the famous partnership between Igor Stravinsky (1882 – 1971) and Sergei Diaghilev’s “Ballet Russes” company. The work is based on a Russian folk tale in which a prince captures the “firebird”. With the help of the mythical animal, the prince faces an evil king, freeing the princesses he held captive.
