On September 28th (Thursday), at 9:30 pm, Ivan Lins presents at the Araújo Vianna Auditorium, in Porto Alegre, his new show A Gente Merece Ser Feliz, the name of the samba composed in partnership with Paulo Cesar Pinheiro and released in 2006 at album “Acariocando”.
The repertoire spans more than 50 years of Ivan’s career, such as the classics “Madalena”, “Novo Tempo”, “Começar de Novo”, “Vitoriosa” and “Lembra de mim”. For this show, Ivan will be accompanied by Marco Brito (keyboards) and Mario Manga (guitar, acoustic guitar and cello), the latter known as one of the leaders of Premeditando o Breque. Tickets cost R$130 and can now be purchased via the Araújo Vianna website.
What the artist wants tonight is the public singing along to the songs that marked an era, that cross generations and that are more alive than ever in the emotional memory of Brazilian music.
It was also in the 1980s that Ivan Lins became one of the most recorded Brazilians abroad. His songs have been performed by Barbra Streisand, Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, George Benson, Michel Legrand and Quincy Jones Sting. The Brazilian musician won over jazz legend Miles Davis, who wanted to re-record no less than 28 songs. Unfortunately, the American trumpeter died just a few months after the phone call between the two.
At the age of 78, the artist is in the process of producing two works — an album of unpublished works and another of sambas, both with no release date scheduled. Outside, there are two albums ready, one made in the United States, with a symphony orchestra, and the other in Denmark, with a big band from Copenhagen in which he sings together with the New York Voices, an American vocal quartet.
