What is the Tennis Foundation?
Fundação Tênis is a non-governmental, non-profit organization whose mission is to walk with children, adolescents and young people in vulnerable situations, a journey of socio-educational, sports, cognitive and emotional development, creating a new life project for a world in transformation.
The NGO was founded in May 2001 and has the support of private and public companies and institutions, as well as donations from individuals. Fundação Tênis offers tennis classes to its students, based on the Olympic values of friendship, respect and excellence, and also carries out activities for civic and professional training.
Fundação Tênis has eight centers located in Porto Alegre, Sapiranga and Igrejinha, in Rio Grande do Sul, and in Mogi das Cruzes, in São Paulo. In all, there are more than a thousand children and young people assisted by the NGO.
What will the Rolando Garra tournament be like?
The Rolando Garra tournament is an annual event for the integration of Fundação Tennis students. The 13th edition will be held on the 27th and 28th of July, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, at the PUC/RS Sports Park, in Porto Alegre.
The event will bring together more than 700 children and adolescents, students and alumni of the NGO. The objective is to fraternize, practice sport and develop Olympic values. About a thousand games are planned, divided into 24 categories defined according to the technical level and age of the participants.
The opening ceremony takes place on the 27th, at 8:30 am, with the presence of Vanderson Chaves, a Paralympic athlete who works on the FENCERING team of Grêmio Náutico União. At age 28, Vanderson has already participated in two Paralympics, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, and is looking for a vacancy for Paris 2024. In addition, Vanderson is a former student of Fundação Tênis.
On the occasion, the athlete will deliver a medal to the outstanding students of each Foundation nucleus. This choice is made in advance by the young people themselves. Students elect, in a first round, the colleague who best represents the Olympic values. In the second round, the choice is made between the two most voted in each class. Thus, the student Pierre de Coubertin is elected. With the right to ballot and voting booth.
Athletes Guga Kuerten, Paulo Roberto Falcão, Daiane dos Santos, Carol Albuquerque, Mayra Aguiar, Gustavo Endres and Ricardinho Alves have previously participated in Rolando Garra.
In addition to the games, young people will be able to participate in activities and games parallel to the games. Players will receive a bracelet that entitles them to a morning snack, lunch and an afternoon snack, a T-shirt alluding to the event and a participation medal. The champions and runners-up of each category will also receive a trophy during the closing ceremony, scheduled for the 28th, at 5 pm.

The NGO has the seal of Best NGOs in Brazil, awarded by Instituto Doar and Rede Filantropia, and the Commemorative Medal for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, due to the practice and dissemination of Olympic Education and humanist actions. It is also part of the UN Global Compact.
