The Committee of Italians Abroad in Rio Grande do Sul (COMITES-RS) plays an important role in representing Italian citizens living in the state. In addition, the agency works in partnership with associations and public authorities to recognize and value the Italian heritage. Recently, COMITES-RS demonstrated its relevance by contributing with proposals to recognize the Italian legacy during its participation in the local agenda of Carlos Barbosa.
Street naming
One of the projects carried out by COMITES-RS in Carlos Barbosa was the inauguration of the street nomenclature in the community of Cinco da Boa Vista. These streets were named in reference to the Lombard presence in the locality. The event took place on Saturday (15) and was attended by counselor Valdecir Ferrari, a native of Carlos Barbosa, who reaffirmed COMITES-RS’s commitment to rescuing Italian identity.
Meeting with Italian associations in the region
Also on Saturday, COMITES-RS held a meeting with the participation of Italian associations in the region. The purpose of this approximation is to promote greater interaction, encourage good relationships and create means of integration. Updating the associations’ data is essential so that they can participate in the polls to choose the representatives of Brazil in the Consiglio Generale degli Italiani all’Estero (CGIE).

One of the novelties announced by COMITES-RS was the creation of the youth commission. This initiative aims to involve young Italians and their descendants in activities related to the preservation of Italian culture and the strengthening of ties between Brazil and Italy.
COMMITTEES-RS in Carlos Barbosa
In addition to the aforementioned actions, COMITES-RS had an intense agenda in Carlos Barbosa. Together with the Consul General of Italy in Porto Alegre, the committee visited the City Hall, the ACBF, the Association of Commerce, Industry and Services of Carlos Barbosa (ACICB), Tramontina’s TEEC and Starflon units, and participated in Festiqueijo. During these visits, COMITES-RS’ role in fostering cultural partnerships and the desire to strengthen exchanges between Brazil and Italy were highlighted.

On the same day, COMITES-RS members provided assistance to the population that is in the process of obtaining Italian citizenship at 442 Football Pub. In addition, they visited Vila das Etnias, a space close to Festiqueijo that brings together representatives of the different peoples who contributed to the history of the municipality. These activities ended the day before enjoying the gastronomy of Festiqueijo.
