What is Ilhabela Sailing Week?
The Ilhabela International Sailing Week is the biggest meeting of the sport in South America, bringing together the main names in the sport in the country and the world. The event is organized by Ilhabela Yacht Club (YCI) and traditionally takes place in July, on the north coast of São Paulo. In 2023, Semana de Vela completes 50 years of history and promises to be even more special.
The competition involves several classes of boats, such as ORC, BRA-RGS, VPRS, C30, HPE-25, Classics, Bow Beak and Multihull. In addition to the exciting regattas at sea, the event offers a series of social and cultural activities, promoting an environment conducive to the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of ties between sailors from across the continent.
The Sailing Week also follows the positive agenda of the main world championships, reducing its environmental impact at each edition. In recent years, in addition to promoting environmental awareness, reducing the use of paper and plastic, the event promoted actions for cleaning and conserving the oceans. Ilhabela has become an obligatory passage for humpback whales, which can be seen during the competitions.
The presence of the Jangadeiros
Clube dos Jangadeiros, one of the largest nautical clubs in Brazil, based in Porto Alegre (RS), is excited to participate in the 50th edition of the International Sailing Week in Ilhabela. With a history of success and tradition in sailing, the club brings with it a team of experienced sailors and great expectations for the event.
In this edition, athletes Gabriel Kieling and Giovani Pistorello compete for the C30 class, Beto Paradeda and Francisco Freitas for the ORC class. Jangadeiros Deputy Commodore for Sports, Aleksander de Vasconcellos, reinforced the relevance of the event. “This edition is even more important as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. Every year we have representatives in this competition, which brings together modern ocean vessels that rival boats used for cruising or weekend regattas, such as the Bico de Proa. We wish our representatives good luck”, says Aleksander.
