The horses did not have an ID chip and are available for adoption.
Two horses that were loose on the side road of BR-116 (Getúlio Vargas Avenue), near Rua Acapulco, São João Batista neighborhood, in São Leopoldo, were rescued by the Environmental Defense Group (GDA), of the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) , on the morning of Sunday, July 16. The GDA is a group specialized in the protection of wild and domestic animals in the municipality12.
The animals were evaluated by the Municipal Secretary of Animal Protection, Walter Verbist, and showed no injuries. As they did not have an identification chip, they were taken to a rural property that the São Leopoldo City Hall maintains for horses that are collected in situations of animal traction, mistreatment or abandonment. The property was chosen through a bidding process for the care of the animals. The cost of animal per diems is paid by the Municipal Government.
The rescued horses are waiting for a new home and people interested in adopting them need to present documentation that proves that they own a rural property that can offer comfort to the animal.
For more information about adoption, you can contact the Municipal Department of Animal Protection by phone (51) 3592-8245 or by email [email protected].
