Discovery Home & Health will showcase an epic life-size makeover of Mattel’s famous Barbie® Dreamhouse toy, creating a fantastical dream home in its new competition series, Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge. Premiere July 19 at 10:30 pm on Discovery Home & Health, HBO Max and discovery+, with a new episode every Wednesday.
Hosted by supermodel and designer Ashley Graham, the series will feature eight teams of HGTV superstars and a Food Network celebrity chef as they transform a Southern California home. In the sequel, a passionate Barbie fan will have the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime stay once she’s complete.
Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge will be filled with surprise appearances by celebrity guests, including some of the film’s top talent. During the competition, acclaimed designer and Barbie contributor Jonathan Adler will be the head judge, along with HGTV designer and Barbie Dreamhouse expert Tiffany Brooks; they will be accompanied weekly by a famous guest judge. In the end, the winning design team will receive a donation in their name to Save the Children.
In the 90-minute grand opening, Ashley and the contestants will take an awe-inspiring trip to Mattel headquarters and receive a surprise Barbie. Kicking off the competition, design and real estate powerhouse Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson (Fighting Real Estate) will take on construction expert Jasmine Roth (Saving Renovations with Jasmine Roth) and Food Network’s Antonia Lofaso (Beachside Brawl). for a battle on the first floor.
The star-studded roster of HGTV’s home design and renovation experts who will compete throughout the season continues into week two. Guest judge, celebrity Nischelle Turner (Entertainment Tonight), will review the work of Ty Pennington (Rock the Block) and Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab), who created a disco-themed 1970s office for Ken, while Jonathan Knight and Kristina Crestin (Farmhouse Fixer) explore ’80s glamor to bring the master suite to life.
In week three, Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas (Bargain Block) will give the front yard and exterior of the home a ’90s toy feel, and Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt (100 Day Dream Home) will build an outrageous wonderland in the backyard. 2000s era as they are judged by celebrity guest Marsai Martin (Black-ish).
The finale will feature an homage to classic Barbie style, with a futuristic wardrobe and dressing room by Christina Hall and James Bender (Christina Reforma). Michel Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle Williams (Luxe for Less) will design a chic office worthy of Barbie’s storied resume. The spaces will be judged by celebrity guest and stylist Christian Siriano.
