The Secretariat for the Environment and Urbanism of the City of Torres informs that registration for the castration of dogs and cats is open. These joint efforts will be carried out during the second half of 2023 and will provide 800 vacancies.
To enroll, tutors must go to the 5th floor of City Hall, located at Rua José Antônio Picoral, 79, and present a copy of their RG, CPF and proof of residence. The selection criteria are as follows: guardians benefiting from some government assistance, street and community dogs, and animal protectors. Opening hours are from 8 am to 11:30 am in the morning and from 1 pm to 5:30 pm in the afternoon.
Castration is a surgical procedure that prevents the reproduction of dogs and cats, bringing benefits to the health of animals and helping to control population. Secretary Fernanda Brocca points out that castration can prevent diseases such as tumors, infections and prostatic hyperplasia in males, as well as breast cancer and psychological pregnancy in females.
In addition, neutering can reduce unwanted behaviors such as aggression, territorial marking and escapes. It also contributes to reducing the abandonment and suffering of stray animals, which often live in precarious conditions and without access to veterinary care. Therefore, castration is a responsible and ethical measure aimed at the well-being of dogs and cats, as well as society in general.
Mayor Carlos Souza says: “Neutering is a simple, safe and beneficial procedure for dogs and cats, as it prevents disease, reduces unwanted behavior and controls reproduction. The castration efforts will have 800 places and will be aimed primarily at tutors who receive some assistance from the government, street and community dogs, animal protectors and, if there are places available, the general population”.
