Doctor Adriana Rodrigues Laurentino, 27, died of a pulmonary embolism last Saturday (24/6), after fracturing her left foot on a walk in Camaçari, Bahia. The health professional lived in the municipality of Bahia, but died in the city of origin, Brasiléia (AC).
Adriana had been living in the city 50 km from Salvador for about a year. She moved to the state to specialize in family health, which is expected to be completed next year. However, after suffering the foot injury and receiving a medical certificate, she decided to travel back to her hometown to spend time with her family.
“The whole family is in Acre, she had a fractured foot and couldn’t stay inside the apartment, she had a sick leave. The family offered to send someone to stay with her, but she said she would come. That flight was the problem, a long time inside the plane, the leg stopped and everything contributed to the pulmonary embolism”, told her cousin, Renata Lopes, to G1.

The doctor felt sick at the Brasília airport, where she made a connection to Acre. There, she received medical attention from the airport staff, and was informed that she would be taken to a health unit in the Federal District.
However, Adriana woke up from a faint and asked to continue her journey to her hometown. “They did all the correct procedures, all the documentation and were going to send her to a hospital in Brasilia. That would be the right thing to do”, explained cousin Renata, who is also a doctor.
“When he got back, he talked to the doctor and asked to come to Acre, the doctor ended up agreeing, gave her the report and she followed the flight. That was the mistake. It is very important that a doctor, even if the patient asks in every possible way to continue the journey, does not allow it, as there is a risk of death on the flight. She couldn’t get on boardlamented.
Arrangement after the flight
Upon landing in the capital Rio Branco, on Saturday (6/24), Adriana took a taxi to Brasiléia and was received by her family. According to Renata, the cousin spent the day well with her family, playing with her relatives. During the night, however, she felt ill.
“Eight o’clock at night, more or less, I left home and when it was about 9 o’clock, my mother called me to run to the hospital because she was being intubated. She died at 11 pm on Saturday night, it was very fast”, recalls the family member.
Renata defends that the Brasiléia team “did everything possible”, and that they tried to revive Adriana for more than 40 minutes, but were unable to save her.
note of regret
Adriana’s death caused an uproar in her hometown, and the city hall issued a note in honor of the victim and offered condolences to her family.
It is with sadness and regret that the Municipality of Brasiléia, on behalf of Mayor Fernanda Hassem and Deputy Mayor Carlinhos do Pelado, extends its condolences to family and friends on the death of physician Adriana Rodrigues Laurentino, whose cause of death was pulmonary thromboembolism.
Adriana was 26 years old, the daughter of Vanderlena Pereira Rodrigues and Antônio Laurentino Correia (in memorian). Adriana was a doctor, graduated from the Amazonian University of Pando (UAP). She currently resided in the State of Bahia, where she practiced medicine with zeal and love.
His wake will take place at Rua Odilon Pratagi, number 262, downtown Brasiléia. Your memory will never be forgotten among your friends and family.
May God comfort the family and friends in this time of pain, and may the good memories always illustrate our thoughts.
Rest in peace!
