In 2023, 12 people have died from meningococcal meningitis. The child, already diagnosed with the disease, would have been placed in the same room as a two-month-old baby and nine other children. According to a family member of the hospitalized, nurses at the Hospital were hospitalized due to the risk of contagion and denied any risk. The child was admitted to a UPA last Wednesday and received all the necessary medication before being transferred to the hospital. Since the beginning of the year, more than 3,000 cases of meningitis have been registered in the city.
