During hospitalization, a nasopharyngeal swab sample was collected for influenza and SARS-CoV-2 testing. as part of regular respiratory virus surveillance activities. The examination identified that it was an influenza A/H1 virus. Fiocruz, as a national reference in the matter, received the sample to carry out complementary analyzes and genomic sequencing.
It was confirmed that it was the A(H1N1)v influenza virus, showing high similarity with viruses found in pigs in Brazil in 2015. It is important to emphasize that this case is not related to the H5N1 virus, which has been widely discussed in recent days. H5N1 is the avian influenza virus, which mainly affects birds, and so far there are no records of cases in humans in Brazil.
The symptoms of A(H1N1)v are:
– fever;
– headache;
– sore throat;
– dor abdominal.
