The City Hall of Viamão carried out an extensive operation from the early hours of the morning on Friday, the 16th, to minimize the damage caused by the rain. Teams from the Secretariats for Works, Social Assistance, Health and Education, together with the Civil Defense and Sub-prefectures, worked to welcome those affected, clean roads, remove fallen trees and other incidents.
During a ceremony held last Wednesday, the 21st, to honor the employees who participated in the operation, the Secretary General of the Government, Rafael Bortoletti, presented a partial balance of the results achieved: “In just three days, we attended to 252 cases of removal of trees, roofing or flooding. Social assistance and health teams provided assistance to 623 families, distributing 426 food baskets and 6,120 pieces of clothing. In addition, 320 homes received protective tarpaulins. The operation will continue throughout this week. I express my gratitude to everyone who has tirelessly committed to helping our people.”
Mayor Nilton Magalhães congratulated the group of secretaries and all collaborators involved in the operation: “We face an unprecedented climatic event in the history of meteorological records. Thank God, we didn’t have any loss of life or missing people, but our population suffered mainly from the fall of trees. Our secretariats responded promptly in an organized and agile manner. There is still a lot to be done, but I am sure that we will be closer to our community”.
