Since Tuesday, June 20, the Municipal Department of Animal Protection (Sempa) and the Municipal Kennel of São Leopoldo have had a video monitoring system in place. In total, six surveillance cameras were installed at the animal shelter and five at the secretariat’s headquarters. These cameras provide images for the Command and Monitoring Center (Cecom) of the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM). The City Hall invested BRL 15,000 in the acquisition of these devices, using its own resources.
Walter Verbist, head of Sempa, says that this initiative brings more safety to the work carried out at the site. He points out that there will be greater tranquility in relation to possible thefts, in addition to better conditions to identify those responsible for abandoning animals in front of the kennel.
Giselda Matheus, Secretary of Public Security and Community Defense, emphasizes the importance of this electronic monitoring to protect property and ensure a quick response to incidents. She claims that this system effectively assists the work of the Guard.
For those interested in adopting one of the dogs from the kennel and looking for a new friend, it is possible to contact Sempa by telephone to schedule a visit to the kennel. To adopt, you must be over 18 years old, present your identity card and proof of residence.
Sempa’s telephone number for assistance is (51) 2200-0448, available from 9 am to 2 pm. It is also possible to send a message via WhatsApp to number 997666152. The face-to-face service takes place at the same time, at Rua Eduardo de Almeida, 1340, São Miguel neighborhood, or through the Sempa page on Facebook.
Complaints of abandonment and mistreatment of animals can be forwarded to the 2nd Civil Police Station, using the telephone number (51) 3568 0380.
