The Municipality of Americana, a city located in the micro-region of Campinas, in São Paulo, reported the death of a woman from Rocky Mountain spotted fever in the municipality. The patient died on June 8, but confirmation of the diagnosis was completed this Friday, the 16th, by the Instituto Adolfo Lutz.
According to surveillance information, the woman, who was not identified, was 58 years old and would have contracted the disease in Limeira, a city 30 km away. Therefore, the case is considered imported.
Symptoms began to appear on June 4, with fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and muscle aches. Three days later, she sought medical attention at an emergency room, but died the next day.

Suspected cases
The city of Americana still has nine suspected cases of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, one of which was at an event at Fazenda Santa Margarida, in Campinas, a place that is related to the recent outbreak in the region. The cases still await laboratory confirmation.
In addition to Americana, the municipality of Jundiaí, 41 km from Campinas, is investigating seven suspected cases of the disease, two of which were also at Fazenda Santa Margarida.
So far, four people have died from Rocky Mountain spotted fever in this outbreak. Are they:
- Mariana Giordano36 years old, from São Paulo, and her boyfriend Douglas Costas, 42 years old, from Jundiaí. The two died on June 8;
- Evelyn Karoline Santos, 28 years old, from Hortolândia. He also died on the 8th of June;
- ERissa Santana, aged 16, from Campinas. He died on the 13th of June.
