On June 14, the Santa Casa de Porto Alegre Robotic Surgery Training Center held the completion ceremony for three new classes of the Robotic Surgery Certification Course. In all, 100 new surgeons were trained who are now able to perform operations assisted by robots. The training carried out at the center uses the latest technology in minimally invasive surgical procedures.
With two years of activity, the Training Center has trained more than 180 professionals trained in the institution. This milestone is extremely important for the Helda Gerdau Johannpeter Robotic Surgery Institute, based in Santa Casa, as these professionals will take the knowledge and practice acquired throughout Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, ensuring greater quality and safety for patients.
The Medical and Teaching and Research Director, Antonio Kalil, highlighted the importance of training the new robotic surgeons, stating that they will be responsible for taking Santa Casa’s expertise to different regions, providing excellent assistance. In addition to professionals from Porto Alegre, the groups also had surgeons from other municipalities, such as Passo Fundo, Santa Rosa, Pelotas, Erechim, Cruz Alta and Criciúma.
The Robotic Surgery Training Center was created in 2021 and is coordinated by surgeon Andre Bigolin. So far, five classes have already been formed, and another two are in progress. The center is responsible for offering theoretical and practical teaching at all levels of medical training, from students to surgeons already certified in robotic surgery.
In addition, it has contributed significantly to the institution, bringing important advances, visibility and, mainly, training surgeons with cutting-edge technology, providing patients with safety and excellence in minimally invasive procedures.
