An 18-year-old girl died of complications from a superbug in Blumenau, in the Itajaí Valley, in Santa Catarina, earlier this week.
Biomedicine student, Dâmilly Beatriz da Graça contracted the microorganism through acne on her face, according to a note released by her mother, Daniela Veiga on social networks. The bacteria is often found in skin infections.
“My daughter was dyed by an aggressive bacteria that is difficult to reverse (Staphylococcus aureus). It generated a generalized infection and caused multiple organ failure,” she wrote.
Death occurred late Monday afternoon (12). Daniela spoke about the loss of her daughter on Wednesday night (14), two days later.
According to the young woman’s mother, the student sought medical attention in the first weekend of June, because of neck pain. At the time, she received medication and was released.

On Saturday (10), the pain remained the same. The next day, Sunday (11), the day before Dâmilly lost her life, the young woman woke up with a very swollen face. That’s when she returned to the hospital and the need for a vacancy in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was evaluated.
“Professionals spared no effort in trying to reverse the situation. With great agility from arrival at the hospital on Sunday, quickly directing to the ICU, until the moment of death “, vented the mother on social media.
Dâmilly was an only child. The young woman resided in Timbó until last year. In that year, she started a biomedicine degree at the Regional University of Blumenau (Furb) and had moved to Blumenau.
In a statement, the institution mourned the loss of the student.
