Last Saturday, June 10th, Campo Municipal was the scene of an exciting sports competition that brought together 160 athletes. The Pérola das Colônias Football Tournament had the participation of eight teams, each consisting of 20 players, representing different nationalities, such as Brazil, Venezuela and Haiti. The Manchester Team, made up of Brazilian athletes, won the title of the competition.
The event, organized by the Coordination for the Promotion of Ethnic-Racial Equality in conjunction with the Municipal Secretary of Sport and Leisure and the Union of Neighborhood Associations of Caxias do Sul, was part of the celebrations of the 133 years of the city and celebrated the cultural diversity present in Caxias do Sul.
During the opening ceremony, Mayor Adiló Didomenico expressed his words of welcome and stressed the importance of equality and sportsmanship: “May Caxias welcome you as I was welcomed 53 years ago. And that the game is fair, because we are all brothers. I wish you much success in the tournament.”
The Pérola das Colônias Tournament was an absolute success, providing moments of healthy competition and integration between the different ethnic groups present in the city. We congratulate Team Manchester for winning the title and thank everyone involved in organizing this memorable event.
