Porcelain tiles are very used coatings in residential projects, as they offer beauty and quality to environments. They stand out for the variety of colors, textures, patterns and formats that can match different styles of decoration. In addition, they have technical characteristics that make them superior to other types of flooring, such as their uniform surface, low water absorption and high resistance to physical and chemical damage.
Another advantage of porcelain tiles It is the ease of maintenance and cleaning, which guarantees durability and a new appearance for a longer period of time. However, care must be taken when cleaning porcelain tiles to avoid stains, wear and tear.
Eliane Revestimentos is a Brazilian company dedicated to the production of ceramic tiles for 60 years. With different finishes, formats and styles, Eliane’s porcelain tiles are recognized for the quality and beauty they add to environments. To ensure the durability and conservation of the products, the company offers some cleaning and maintenance guidelines, which must be followed by consumers.
Daily cleaning:
To remove loose dirt on the porcelain floor, the ideal is to use a hair broom or a vacuum cleaner with a brush nozzle, which will avoid scratches on the porcelain tile.
Afterwards, it is recommended to clean the surface with a sponge or soft cloth dampened with a specific detergent for floors, slightly diluted in water (the proportion is described on the product label). At the end, use a damp cloth only with plain water to remove the detergent from the surface.
Common cleaning products – such as scented cleaners – can also be used as long as they are diluted with water.
In both cases, it is necessary to remove excess products with a dry cloth to complete the process, as if they dry on the coverings, a film may form that is difficult to remove.
Removing Stains:
To remove persistent stains, apply a creamy liquid soap diluted with water on the coating and let it act for at least five minutes. Then rub gently with a soft sponge and rinse well to avoid foam residue that could cause new stains.
If there is damage caused by grease, oil, crayons, pencils, rust, juice, wine, coffee or soda, clean with a cloth dampened in alkaline detergent with liquid soap or alcohol. In the case of grease, oil and crayons, warm water can also be used to help dissolve the dirt and make it easier to remove the stain. Paint spills must be removed with organic solvent, detergent or raz water. These products are also useful for eliminating lime and cement residues. Remember to rinse thoroughly after using these products.
Do not use solutions with chlorine or acids:
Products that contain acids or chlorine in high concentration, such as bleach, caustic soda, acetone and ammonia, can chemically damage the surface of coatings, causing whitish, matte stains or distortions in gloss. This damage is irreversible and cannot be recovered. It is important to be especially careful with these chemical solutions when dealing with polished porcelain tiles, as these coatings are less resistant to these agents.
Avoiding Scratches and Scratches:
During cleaning, avoid using soap and powdered soaps, as the granules can scratch the surface of the porcelain tiles. Also, do not use brushes or sponges with steel bristles, as they can scratch and damage the coating, as well as remove shine and enamel.
A useful tip is to place quality mats and rugs at the entrance and exit to external areas to retain some of the dirt that can damage the surface of the floors. For shiny or polished surfaces, protect the feet of metal chairs, cabinets and furniture to prevent scratches.
