On April 29, at 9 pm, the band Velho Romeu will give an unprecedented and exclusive performance at Theatro Fuga, in Porto Alegre, bringing a new approach to local pop-rock. Founded in 2017 as a casual musical project, the band now consists of musicians Otávio Castilhos, responsible for vocals and bass, Gerê on guitar and Marlon Castilhos, who plays drums and does backing vocals. What started out as simple family gatherings turned into lively rehearsals with lots of music and fun.
The show “Old Romeu, play a banjo there” is a unique opportunity to check out the band’s news in a project that bears the same name. The show will present original compositions, including the EP “Mesmo Lugar” (2020), the EP “Translúcido” (2021) and the EP “Politize-se” (2022), in addition to the single “Velho Romeu” (2019), and also covers of national and international MPB classics, rock’n’roll, progressive rock and pop-rock, all with the trademark of the Velho Romeu style.
On stage, the trio promises to transform the Escape from the theater into an extension of your living room, where the musicians’ sonic and revolutionary creativity flows freely. With their contagious performance, the band has been conquering more and more fans and promises to delight the audience with a unique and unforgettable show.
In the repertoire, original songs like “Velho Romeu” and “Ao Importar dos Livros” and hits like “Hotel California” (The Eagles), “Primeiros Erros” (Capital Inicial), “Sangue Latino” (João Ricardo), “Como Nosso Pais” (Belchior), “Mrs Robinson” (Paul Simon), among others. The band Velho Romeu is a “Porto-Cachoeirense” trio that bets on its own compositions that refer to national pop-rock and gives breath and new clothes to gaucho rock. Formed in 2015, it is composed of Otávio Castilhos (voice and double bass), Gerê (guitar) and Marlon Castilhos (drums and backing vocals). The band seeks to harmonize the beauty of soft melodies with a certain “rock weight”, resulting in a sound full of energy and identity.
Despite its youth, the band has already signed its own hits, such as the EP Same Place (2020); Politize-se (2022), single Velho Romeu (2019) and national and international covers of MPB, rock’n’roll, progressive rock and pop-rock in the style of Velho Romeu.
