Main risks of influenza flu
Influenza flu, commonly called the flu, is a respiratory infection caused by the influenza virus. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
The main risks of the flu include serious complications such as pneumonia and heart disease. The people most vulnerable to these complications are young children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, asthma and heart disease. In severe cases, the flu can lead to hospitalization and even death.
Another concern with influenza is the possibility of the virus mutating, which can lead to the emergence of new viral strains to which the population may not have immunity, resulting in global pandemics. For this reason, annual flu vaccinations are highly recommended to reduce the risk of infection and help prevent the spread of the virus.
