Eyebrow transplantation has become increasingly common among people seeking to fill in the area for various reasons. Excessive removal of hair in the past, genetic flaws, diseases that cause hair loss, burns or accidents that caused hair loss in the region, and even those who seek to improve the harmony of the face are among the main reasons.
Eyebrow transplantation is a simple procedure with local anesthesia, but considered surgical with all the details and risks involved. Therefore, it is essential that it be carried out after a correct diagnosis and a careful assessment of the patient’s health conditions – such as analysis of blood clotting problems.
In addition, the transplant must be performed by a specialist doctor, such as a plastic surgeon or dermatologist who specializes in hair restoration.
Who can perform the procedure?
According to the Brazilian Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABCRC), the procedure can be performed on both men and women, but not everyone can undergo eyebrow transplantation. This is because there are cases of alopecia that do not allow recovery of the area where the follicles were lost, for example. Each case should always be evaluated by a specialist medical professional.
How is eyebrow transplantation done?
Experts from the Brazilian Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABCRC) explain that the procedure is similar to a hair transplant.
“The implant lasts an average of eight hours, and is done following the natural curves of the eyebrow, with a thread-by-thread technique and with the patient’s own follicles, removed from the scalp and then inserted into the eyebrows”, explains Dr. Henry Radwansky.
The technique has even been much sought after by those who followed the fashion of the 1990s, thinner eyebrows done with tweezers, and who are now looking again for the naturalness of the hair.
What is the recovery like and how long does it take for new hair to grow?
After surgery, the patient is usually discharged the same day. The wires fall out within three weeks and the roots remain. The tendency is for new hair to start growing definitively in 12 weeks, with a final result of growth within one year after the transplant, which is definitive.
What are the main care for the new eyebrow?
It is important to be careful when washing your face and always dry it gently and with an exclusive towel. In addition, the use of makeup and creams on site and exposure to the sun should be avoided. Heavier physical activity is also not recommended in the first post-transplant days. The important thing is to always follow all the surgeon’s indications for a satisfactory final result.
