This Friday, April 7, from 00:00 to 15:00, another edition of the traditional Good Friday event will take place at Padre Reus in São Leopoldo. Sponsored by the City Hall through the Secretariat for Economic, Tourism and Technological Development of São Leopoldo (Sedettec), the community fair will offer food, religious and handicraft products for the faithful who visit the Sacred Heart of Jesus Sanctuary during the religious holiday.
The City Hall of São Leopoldo recently carried out asphalt paving and capping work on Rua Padre Werner and Rua Leonel França, located around the sanctuary. These works are part of the Pavimenta São Léo Program and benefited the region.
About the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
The Padre Reus Sanctuary, as it is known, is the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul. It was built between 1958 and 1968 and officially opened in 1970. It is considered one of the main points of religious tourism in the state and annually receives more than 1.5 million devotees.
The sanctuary is located next to the tomb of Father João Batista Reus and is a place where many devotees go to pay promises for favors achieved and to place flowers next to the tomb. Visiting hours are daily from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
