The Audiovisual Production Support Office – Porto Alegre Film Commission – linked to the Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development and Tourism (SMDET) – launched this Thursday, 30, the Film Commission Network, during the South Summit. The event, which took place at the City Hall’s Marketplace, presented the initiative that aims to connect partners and service providers in the audiovisual content production chain.
According to the municipal secretary of Economic Development and Tourism, Júlia Evangelista Tavares, the Network is a pioneering initiative. “It will aggregate and promote partners in a virtual environment, generating a direct connection and ensuring a friendly environment for negotiation between producers and the local receptive”, she explained. The Network seeks to capture partners in ventures in the creative industry, hotels, restaurants, transport, travel agencies, government, cultural organizations and sector entities.
SMDET’s Creative Economy coordinator, Joana Braga, explains that the Film Friendly Network works together with the Film Commission to promote the Capital as an attractive and friendly destination for audiovisual productions.
“The creation of the Network is another step in the construction of the policy to attract audiovisual productions and new investments to the city. It aims to reduce production costs and, on the other hand, offers the partner new business opportunities, promotion and brand strengthening”, explained Joana.
For the director of Arts and Creative Economy at the Secretary of Culture of RS, Ana Fagundes, working in partnership only tends to strengthen the chain and the economy. “We need a consolidated Film Commission to attract productions of all kinds to Porto Alegre”, she said.
Representatives of the Film Commission of the Department of Culture of Pelotas, Abrasel, Sindilojas, Professional Association of Cinematographic Technicians of RS (APTC), Local Audiovisual Governance Forum, State Institute of Cinema (Iecine) were at the launch. Porto Alegre is the focus of major commercial, publicity, documentary and educational productions, short and feature films. The segment ended 2022 with more than 900 authorizations issued by the Film Commission, for productions, locations and production companies.
