Bring in more physicians, produce knowledge and expand the health coverage of the Dom Joao Becker Hospital. These are the objectives outlined by Santa Casa, starting with the inauguration of the new physical area of Teaching and Research and Relationship with the Clinical Staff in Gravataí, which took place this Tuesday (28).
With practically quadrupled space, the site will be the base for professors and resident physicians from partner universities (mainly unisinos and UFCSPA) to interact with the other members of the clinical staff.
The launch was attended by authorities such as the mayor, Luiz Zaffalon, the rector of Unisinos, Sérgio Mariucci, the president of CREMERS, Carlos Sparta, and other political and business leaders, class entities and directors of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia.
Prescription, study and meeting rooms, in addition to the medical lounge, are part of the new structure. Teaching and Research moved from, until then, 30m² on the fourth floor to a new modern and technological space of 116m² on the sixth floor of the HDJB. “Since 2021, we felt the need to expand this sector. Our partnership with universities has grown over the past two years and many doctors have arrived at Dom João Becker. It is a fact that the hospital that has a teaching area grows in quality indicators, as highly qualified medical professors start to live day to day and have the responsibility of transmitting the excellence of teaching to residents”, says the medical director of the HDJB, Fernando Issa. According to him, everyone wins in this process: hospital, universities and, mainly, patients.
At the moment, Dom João Becker has four medical residency programs: gynecology and obstetrics, internal medicine, general surgery and intensive care. Now, with the restructuring, it will be possible to expand to other specialties.
“Since its creation 219 years ago, holy house has teaching and research at its core, so much so that the best medical professionals in the state work or have worked at some point in their careers in our hospital complex. We are very happy to expand the structure destined to this important segment, bringing a Santa Casa culture to Gravataí”, says HDJB superintendent, Antonio Weston. According to him, a “spiral of good” is generated from the residency programs, as professors and students end up motivating even more the doctors who already work at the hospital.
TOWARDS THE FUTURE
For Antônio Kalil, medical director and director of teaching and research at Santa Casa, all investment in these areas, in addition to the immediate positive effects, project the institution towards the future. “It is known that Becker has, in recent years, a consistent trajectory of qualification in all its assistance and administrative aspects. Now, improving the conditions in the teaching and research areas and in the relationship with the clinical staff expands this process even further and aims at perennial effects in the medium and long term”, he concludes.
