Providing the practice of adventure activities to people with disabilities, Camping Acessível brought together more than 1,000 people in its 4th edition held last Saturday (25) in Três Coroas.
According to Gabriel Feiten, one of the creators and organizers of the event, the main objective was achieved. “We know that the forecast of rain and the rescheduling of the event may have reduced the public, but we are happy with all the testimonials we had. We managed to provide a different day, of inclusion and joy for all these people”, he said.
Paralympic handbike athlete, Adriano dos Santos Monteiro (pictured at the side), 48 years old, traveled from Canoas to Três Coroas with his family to participate in the Accessible Camping. “It’s the first time I’ve come to the event and I’m in love. It is an emotion that has no explanation. It is something that is priceless to be able to go rafting”, he said.
In addition to wheelchair users, like Adriano, people with mobility difficulties, low or no visibility and with intellectual disabilities were able to practice rafting in adapted boats and with the support of volunteers. In all there were 31 boats totaling around 200 people.
Rafting was not the only activity of the day, participants could also bathe in the Paranhana River with amphibious chairs, practice archery, play adapted bocce, badminton, stand up paddle and hike. The event also featured live music and toys adapted for children with disabilities.
The event, which started at 8:30 am and ended in the late afternoon, had the participation of 120 volunteers. All activities were free.
The ‘Accessible Camping’ is organized by the Association of People with Disabilities, Friends and Family of Três Coroas – Apdaf and the Municipal Council for Persons with Disabilities of Três Coroas.
