During a series of agendas in Caxias do Sul, on March 10, a delegation from the Kenyan Embassy in Brazil visited the innovation environments of the University of Caxias do Sul – UCS.
The delegation, led by the ambassador of the main diplomatic representation of the African country in Brazil, Lemarron Kaanto, was received at the headquarters of the Science, Technology and Innovation Park of UCS – TECNOUCS and got to know the structure of the Innovation Agency UCSiNOVA.
On the occasion, the rector of UCS, professor Gelson Leonardo Rech, contextualized the characteristics of the Institution of a community nature, made up of more than 700 professors and which has already trained more than 124 thousand professionals – today UCS Alumni – and its mission to offer a complete education linked to regional development.
Coordinator of New Business Development of the Dean of Innovation and Technological Development, Professor Fábio Verruck spoke about the innovation ecosystem of the University, which originated in 1999, with the creation of the Technological Incubator, and which today has an impact, with its projects in different hubs, institutions throughout Brazil – including international connections.
Marcos Marocco, researcher from the UCS GRAPHENE team, explained the properties of the carbon-derived nanomaterial and guided projects from the UCS graphene production plant.
The ambassador showed interest in the University’s initiatives, with emphasis on the innovations made possible from the application of graphene. “More than academic, they are practical solutions”, he observed.
The diplomat envisioned collaboration possibilities connected to the exchange of professors with Kenyan institutions and students – an exchange that is already made possible at UCS from the PEC-G project – Undergraduate Agreement Student Program. In order to discuss ways of getting closer, he invited the academic management to visit Kenya.
The group also included the president of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kenya (KNCCI) – Machakos County, Joseph Mutavi, commercial adidas, Beatrice Kinyua, and administrative adidas, Everlyne Okeyo, from the embassy, and administrative assistant Eddah Otieno .
