Novo Hamburgo/RS – As of March 7, Casa das Artes will host the exhibition “Ritual of Isolation and Empathy”, by Hamburg artist Uéslei Fagundes. With works created during the first months of the pandemic, the exhibition series has a documentary nature and reflects on issues related to literature, astrology and tarot, dialoguing with narratives constructed in a state of confinement.
Composed of works in oil and oil pastel on canvas and paper, the exhibition refers, therefore, to a thematic selection of paintings and drawings that reflect on the ability to put ourselves in the other’s shoes. “In times of a pandemic, we feel our vulnerability in the face of contact with finitude and helplessness. That said, the reference we have left is the internal one, where we return to ourselves or to the little we know about this place”, comments Fagundes.
The exhibition “Ritual of Isolation and Empathy” is open to the public until March 28, from Tuesday to Friday, from 9 am to 5:45 pm, and Saturdays, from 9 am to 3:45 pm. Until the end of November, the cultural space will receive the work of a total of ten artists, contemplated in the Notice of Occupation of the Gallery of Casa das Artes 2020/2021.
about the artist
Visual artist and Bachelor of Visual Arts at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. She has participated in exhibitions at BlueShop Gallery and Delphian Gallery, both in London, UK. In 2018, she held the exhibition “There will always be places we pass without knowing”, at the Museum of Art of Montenegro / RS. In 2019, she took the exhibition “Histórias Latentes e Introspecção” to Casa das Artes in Novo Hamburgo. She lived for three years in Dublin, Ireland, and this event profoundly influenced the poetics of her work. A large part of his production is developed in the possibilities of painting, where he establishes a state of incessant reflection. Incorporating varied narratives, stacked one on top of the other, his works induce an intriguing sense of continuity: they are distorted objects, disturbing or wandering landscapes, seeking to define themselves as something or part of somewhere.
About the notice
Cultural Contest Notice 01/2020 was released in April 2020, providing for the selection of the 10 (ten) best exhibition proposals, presented by visual artists and groups of Brazilian or foreign artists and related entities and curatorial projects, covering the entire diversity of visual arts languages, in order to compose the programming of the Municipal Arts Gallery, located in Casa das Artes in Novo Hamburgo. Among the main objectives of the notice, the democratization of access to the Municipal Gallery of Arts stands out; as well as the stimulus to creativity and Art research; as well as the contribution in the cultural and educational formation of the citizen.
