The Environmental Defense Group (GDA), Ipson Pavani, from São Leopoldo, responded to two occurrences involving the rescue of snakes this week.
On Tuesday (28), a coral snake was removed from the patio of a house on Rua Nordeste, in the Duque de Caxias neighborhood. Already on Thursday (2), a vine snake was in a house on Rua Padre Pedro Lenz, Cristo Rei neighborhood.
In both cases, the GDA was called via telephone 153 and the agents went to the locations. The two snakes were collected and taken to the Ecological Base of Rio Velho, a suitable place for the species.

The coral snake only attacks when it feels threatened, but it is one of the most venomous snakes in Brazil, as its venom reaches the nervous system and the bite is quite painful. In case of bite, treatment is done with antielapidic serum and needs to be carried out by a health professional right after the attack.
They are semi-fossorial animals, that is, they spend part of their time underground. They are not considered aggressive, being usually hidden in undergrowth, in holes and under logs and stones. True corals are carnivorous animals, feeding, for example, on caecilians, other snakes, fish and invertebrate animals. Variation in relation to behavior can be observed depending on the species studied.
vine snake
Non-venomous snake of medium to large size, with a very thin body and a very long tail. They feed on frogs and lizards. Oviparous, there are records of females carrying four to ten eggs. In the dinghy, individuals elevate the upper body, inflate and laterally flatten the neck, and open the mouth wide. Despite having venom, this species is not capable of killing humans.
