The regulation of gambling, which includes betting on sporting events, is a topic that has been in vogue in the political arena for some time. And according to sports journalist Paulo Vinícius Coelho, the PVC, the Minister of Economy has already developed and sent the Provisional Measure that regulates predictions in sporting events. Now the text must be evaluated by the Civil House, and later it can be signed by President Lula, probably shortly after the end of Carnival.
The main purpose of the measure is to collect taxes from the activity and also create greater legal certainty for this industry, thus offering greater protection for consumers and also for companies operating in the sector. In addition, another point that increases the pressure for the regulation of sports betting in the country is the recent case of manipulation of some matches of the Brazilian Championship Series B, which according to some is the result of the government’s leniency in authorizing the operation of betting platforms in the country. country without a comprehensive regulation in force for more than four years.
In 2018, Law 13,756 was enacted, which allowed online sports betting and gambling platforms to operate in Brazil, however, these companies could not be headquartered in the country or offer their services in physical establishments. Furthermore, the law provided for this sector to be regulated within two years, a period that could be extended for another two years. Still, even with the enormous development that this market had in Brazil, the government of the then president Jair Bolsonaro did not meet the deadline set by law and left the task of regulating sports betting in Brazil to the newly elected government.
Over the last four years, several representatives of sports betting and online gambling operators have defended the regulation of the sector, pointing out that if this were to happen, Brazil would receive even more investments in this industry, since the country is the most promising market in Latin America. .
It is worth noting that, since receiving authorization to operate in Brazil, the bets with no deposit bonus fans soon fell in love with it, offering the possibility for them to cheer for their favorite team’s games or a wide variety of other sporting events, whether domestic or abroad, without even having to put their hands in their pockets.
Scandal
According to public ministry, there are indications of match manipulation in three matches of the last round of Série B, namely: Vila Nova x Sport, Criciúma x Tombense and Sampaio Corrêa x Londrina. With that, the investigation pointed to some footballers from those teams, and midfielder Romário, who defended Vila Nova at the time of the games, confirmed that he was approached by some individuals, who offered him BRL 150,000 to score a penalty first stage of the match between Vila Nova x Sport. As a sign that the proposal was true, one of the enticers would have sent R$ 10,000 to the account of a colleague of the footballer.
However, Romário was not listed for the match in question, and according to the investigations, he would have tried to convince his teammates to commit a penalty, but he was unsuccessful in his endeavor. As a result, the recruiters began to demand the return of R$ 10,000. The president of Vila Nova found out about the issue involving one of the club’s contractors, fired the player and reported the case to the Goiás Public Prosecutor’s Office, which found out about the matter and recently launched the “Maximum Penalty” operation.
According to the Public Ministry of Goiás, one of the tactics most used by the group of recruiters was to convince the players to take a penalty in the first half of the matches, and if this materialized, they would receive a portion of the amount won in the bets, this value which could reach up to R$ 150 thousand.
