By preserving the memory of local trade, the Museu do Comércio ─ created by Sindilojas Caxias ─ is dedicated to rescuing the memory of the immigrants who settled and contributed to the development of the economy in the region of Caxias do Sul, at the end of the 19th century.
So that tourists and the community in general have the opportunity to learn about this story, the space will have its doors open during the Festa das Colheitas, which will take place from February 24th to 26th, March 3rd to 5th and March 10th to 12th, 2023 , at the Festa da Uva Events Center. To participate, admission is free.
Visitors are invited to experience a journey through time when entering house 9 of the 1885 Caxias do Sul replica, in the Mário Bernardino Ramos Exhibition Park: the Commerce Museum. The space, maintained by Sindilojas Caxias, is a reproduction of a Dry and Wet Warehouse in Caxias do Sul.
With more than 20 years of history, the Museum has a collection that refers to the old commercial houses. Objects for personal use by the settlers’ family and for farming, blacksmithing, utensils, and food, make up the scenario that faithfully reproduces the well-known “bodegas” from the time when the immigrants arrived in the city.

Sindilojas Caxias will provide assistance at the Museu do Comércio, during the Festa das Colheitas 2023, on Fridays, from 2 pm to 10 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 am to 10 pm.
About the Museum
The Museu do Comércio, inaugurated in 2000, under the management of Ricardo Golin and renovated by Ivanir Gasparin, portrays a dry and wet warehouse in Caxias do Sul at the end of the 19th century, which allows tourists and the community to have contact with pieces that recall the historical trajectory of trade in Caxias do Sul. The Museum has a collection of objects, furniture, ironwork, hats and food: a reproduction of a commercial establishment from the time when immigrants started economic activities in Caxias do Sul.
History of trade in Caxias do Sul
With the arrival of italian immigrants to Serra Gaúcha, from 1875, the local economy began to structure itself, with agriculture and commerce. The settlers produced everything possible at home, for their own subsistence. To acquire other foodstuffs and products needed by the family, they used the barter system, which gave rise to trade. Three years later, right at the beginning of the organization and settlement of Colônia Caxias, there were 10 Secos & Molhados warehouses at the headquarters, in addition to another 85 commercial establishments spread across the streets and leagues for a population of 3,849 inhabitants.
