The evening’s lecture was on “Human Values”, given by Giovanni Mattiello, who addressed issues related to society, consumption, media, human values, behavior and spirituality. According to the speaker, “we live stunned by the chaos of noise and superficiality, in a society that prioritizes the peripheral and the superficial, the shallow. There is a permanent void in social relationships. The great dynamism of the means of communication and information afflicts us with an infinity of value systems, which invade our homes and force us to choose some of them, where what predominates is desire and not need. The day-to-day demands impose on us a routine where we rarely reserve moments of reflection, deepening and care for our being. In this way, little by little, we lose touch with the simple things in life, what really nourishes our soul and insistently asks us what are the noblest values of our existence”.
Giovanni Mattiello is a Sociologist graduated from the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos, Master and Doctor in Theology from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul. Over the past eleven years, it has given more than a thousand show lectures, in 200 different municipalities, these lectures for: students, young people, teachers, senior citizens, employees of companies and communities.
