The Environmental Group of the Municipal Guard of Gravataí – an agency linked to the Municipal Secretariat for Public Safety Affairs (Smasp) – captured a capybara this Monday morning, 13th, at the Liquid Effluent Treatment Center of the General Motors Automotive Complex ( Cetel).
The animal was taken to the Preservas – Nucleus for conservation and rehabilitation of wild animals at UFRGS. During 2022, the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment, Sustainability and Animal Welfare (Sema), with the support of the Environmental Group, rescued around 350 wild animals of different species.
Sema warns that mistreatment of animals is considered an environmental crime, provided for in Law No. 5197/1967, which provides for the protection of fauna, and by Law No. 9605/1998, which deals with environmental crimes.
If you find any wild animal, leave it in a safe place and call the competent bodies so that the correct handling is done, preserving its life. Rescue requests must be forwarded to the Environmental Group of the Municipal Guard via Dial 153 or directly to Sema via telephone 3600-7634.
