The cargo with Pfizer products arrived in Brazil via Viracopos Airport, in Campinas, around 4:40 am. The distribution of vaccines will follow the population criterion, according to age group (see table below).
According to the ministry’s schedule, the first flight with the immunizers should leave for Rio Branco, in Acre. The plane is expected to take off at 9:50 pm from Guarulhos, where the vaccines are stored. As the travel time to the city in the North of the country is estimated at four hours, the product must arrive at the destination at 11:50 pm, local time (1:50 am, Brasília time).
THE R7 contacted Latam, which will transport all immunizing agents delivered by air. The company informed that there was no confirmation about the flight schedules until the publication of this report.
Brazil should receive 4.3 million doses of the vaccine for children this month. Last Monday (10), Minister Marcelo Queiroga announced the anticipation of 600,000 doses of this total. The government said Pfizer is expected to deliver another 7.2 million doses in February and 8.4 million in March.
not mandatory
The immunization of children will not be mandatory in Brazil, unlike all other childhood immunizations provided for by the PNI (National Immunization Program). It will be up to the parents or guardians to give the approval for the application. The interval between one application and the other will be eight weeks.
Despite keeping the decision of whether or not to vaccinate children in the hands of the parents, the Ministry of Health went back on the charge of medical prescription as a condition for the application.
The dose of the vaccine that will be applied to children is equivalent to one third of that used in adults. The immunizer can be stored for ten weeks at a temperature of 2°C to 8°C. The vaccine given to people over 12 years old can be stored for four weeks after thawing. The pediatric immunizer bottle is orange, while the adult bottle is purple.
