The driver of the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) in the Acre city of Tarauacá, Romerito de Menezes Meleiro, aged 37, died early this Tuesday (31) in the ICU of the Hospital do Juruá, in Cruzeiro do Sul, in the interior of Acre. According to the family, he was diagnosed with dengue, malaria and Covid-19.
His cousin, Sara Nunes said that Meleiro started feeling sick about two weeks ago, went to the Tarauacá hospital and had dengue fever confirmed and went home. But, as the symptoms worsened, he returned to the health unit, underwent new tests and was diagnosed with malaria.
“His condition was only getting worse and before traveling to Cruzeiro do Sul, they did other tests and he also had Covid. He even went to the Tarauacá hospital three times, was seen, got better and went home, but then it got worse and he was hospitalized again. He left four children”, said the cousin.
The professional was transferred to the hospital in Cruzeiro do Sul last Friday (27) and, due to the worsening of the condition, he went to the ICU of the unit, but ended up not resisting and died at dawn.
In a note signed by Secretary Pedro Pascoal, the State Department of Health of Acre (Sesacre) lamented the death of the server. “In this moment of deep pain and suffering, may God grant relief and comfort to family and friends in the face of this irreparable loss.”
The president of the Health Workers Union of Acre (Sintesac), Adailton Cruz also published a note of regret.
“It is with the deepest regret that we mourn the passing of Mr. Romerito de Menezes Meleiro, an ambulance driver from Tarauacá, contributed a lot to public health in Acre, especially to the municipality of Tarauacá, where he was always a respected and beloved professional. We extend our condolences to family, relatives and friends for such a great loss.”
Former deputy and physician Jenilson Leite paid tribute to the public servant. “Unfortunately, we lost our friend Romerito Meleiro, a dedicated and hardworking young man from Tarauacá. We leave here our deep condolences to all family and friends. May God be in the heart of each one giving comfort and strength in this moment of sadness.”
