A Carnival Court 2023 was chosen, on Saturday, January 28th. The final of the contest took place at Império do Sol’s court, which was crowded by the carnival community of the city and region. They also received banners such as the first princess Nayara de Souza, from Leões da Feitoria and the second princess Bibiana Brum, from Academicos Verde e Rosa.
In the first stage, the competitors were evaluated by the judging committee in terms of communicability, friendliness, posture, beauty and body language. In the final of the contest, they were evaluated by parade on catwalk and samba no pé.
The acting secretary of Culture and International Relations of São Leopoldo, Luísa Gonçalves, also highlighted the relevance of Carnival in the culture of São Leopoldo. “Today many families and entire communities dedicate their lives to Carnival and rely on these actions for their survival. São Leopoldo schools develop cultural and social actions throughout the year and Carnival promotes quality leisure, in addition to boosting the economy. Carnival is one of the most democratic popular manifestations, which allows the participation of various sectors of society”, commented Luísa.
