This year, the Department of Diversities and Traditional Communities of Canoas prepared a great event at Praia do Paquetá to pay homage to Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes and Iemanjá, on the 2nd of February. More than five thousand people are expected for the festivities. The organization has a partnership with the Municipal Council of the People of Terreiro (CMPT).
The terreiro peoples will have a structure with 10 square meters of area covered with awnings, to guarantee the celebrations even in case of rain. The rituals will be led by the Yalorixá Mãe Alice de Oxum, one of the oldest saints in Canoas.
The program starts at 1 pm, with the concentration on site. The delivery of the traditional boat to the waters of Rio dos Sinos is scheduled for 2 pm. According to the secretary, Father Santiago, the offerings will be ecological, that is, biodegradable. For the other types, there will be an exclusive altar to receive them – after which there will be collection by the City Hall for the correct destination.
“We have prepared all the infrastructure to celebrate this very important date for the terreiro people and everyone who wants to participate”, says the secretary, noting that Canoas has more than a thousand registered terreiros.
At 2:30 pm, the songs and Umbanda points begin in honor of the Queen of the Waters, when the caboclos – entities that present themselves as indigenous, through incorporation in mediums – take place. Afterwards, from 3:30 pm, there will be a scent bath with Iemanjá herbs and application of passes open to sympathizers.
The end of the festivities is scheduled for 5 pm, with the distribution of fruits blessed by the caboclos to all participants.
