Claims for unemployment insurance grew by 5% in Rio Grande do Sul from January to November 2022 when compared to the same period in 2021. The data that make up the federal government panel show that in these eleven months 334.5 thousand unemployment insurance applications, 16.1 thousand more than in the previous year.
“One of the reasons for this scenario is the slowdown of the economy, not only in Rio Grande do Sul, but internationally. We had a period of intense recovery of the economy, which started in the second half of 2021, with the decrease in the pandemic. Growth continued, with less intensity, in the first half of 2022, but, as the data show, the forecast we had only for 2023, was brought forward to the last months of 2022. In addition, the drastic change in the political scenario it also had global repercussions”, explains the president of the Union of Administrators of Rio Grande do Sul, Jorge Avancini.
In addition to the slowdown in the economy, factors such as the accommodation in job creation and the downsizing of some activities are other reasons that made Rio Grande do Sul request assistance.
“With the slowdown of the economy and the accommodation of most sectors, which did not have any news that would warm up the sector in 2022, many entrepreneurs do not feel confident to invest or expand their businesses. Which meant that job opportunities were frozen and some positions were not even replaced. We can see this reflection mainly in the service sector, which has the highest number of searches for unemployment insurance, around 34.93%. And this situation can also be observed in other sectors, such as commerce, which represents 28.25% of requests, and industry, which refers to 25.11%”, says Avancini.
“To get around this growth, the way out is the joint work of the government and businessmen. Both at the federal and state levels, measures to encourage the economy and job creation can be adopted. In this sense, the revision of labor legislation, amended by the previous government, would bring benefits to businessmen and employees. The creation of new ways for the public initiative to contribute to the growth of the private sector and the investment in offering courses and specializations are also fundamental. The union of government, businessmen and representative organizations, such as trade unions, only adds to Rio Grande do Sul. But for that, it is necessary to start this dialogue”, argues the president of SINDAERGS.
