Mayors and representatives of municipalities that are part of the Serra Gaúcha Intermunicipal Consortium for Sustainable Development (CISGA) signed on Thursday (22), the contract with Caixa Econômica Federal focused on the structuring of the Urban Solid Waste System Concession project. The meeting took place in Garibaldi, at the CISGA headquarters.
The partnership, observes the president of CISGA and mayor of Farroupilha, Fabiano Feltrin, will be decisive for municipalities to meet a set of goals established by the New Sanitation Legal Framework, including solid waste management. Among the benefits for the municipalities from the agreement are the modernization and increase in the quality of services, the proper disposal of waste, the possibility of generating ancillary revenue for collectors’ cooperatives, the reduction of costs through the use of new technologies and positive environmental impacts.
The partnership provides for the use of resources from the Support Fund for the Structuring and Development of Concession Projects and Public-Private Partnerships – FEP, with a counterpart from the municipalities. The next stage, after signing, will be the formation of a working group that should complete the structuring within two years. The expected duration of the concession is 20 to 30 years.
