Flores da Cunha will be the stage for the first edition of MDBFair – Red Rooster Edition on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of February, at Parque da Vindima The event is a different branch of the already traditional MDBF (Mississippi Delta Blues Festival), the largest Blues festival in Latin America, which has 13 editions held in Caxias do Sul, in addition to Gramado and Rio de Janeiro.
With support from the public authorities, through the State Law for Cultural Incentives (LIC), MDBFair will already be part, since this edition, of the official calendar of events of the Municipality of Flores da Cunha.
The event is inspired by the historic outdoor fair in Chicago (IL), the Maxwell Street Open-Air Fair, held in the North American city since the beginning of the 20th century, very important in the development of the electric and urban phase of the Blues.
According to Toyo Bagoso, creator of the MDBF and MDBFair, the proposal is for a leaner activity than the Blues Festival, bringing a gastronomic fair, valuing talents and local producers among restaurants, breweries and wineries, in addition to several exhibitors that have connections with the Blues and its aspects. “We have the same essence as the Festival, but in a smaller and more versatile format, allowing more space for local artists and producers”, he says.
There will be more than 30 musical acts divided into four stages: Deck Nostalgia Stage, Flowers Blues Stage, Malibu Blues Stage and Red Rooster Stage (main stage). The bands were selected prioritizing local artists from the Blues scene in the South of the country, with some national names. Another inclusive novelty is that, during Saturday, the Red Rooster and Flowers Blues Stage will have pound interpreters performing during the shows.
Local cultural entities were important for the existence of the first edition of the fair, such as the Municipal Council of Culture of the city and the Association of Cultural Art Producers (APAC) of Flores da Cunha, which, through the musician and cultural producer Felipe Corso, became responsible for choosing the municipality to host the event.
On each day, the gates of Parque da Vindima will open at specific times, on Friday (3rd) at 6 pm, Saturday (4th) at 3 pm and Sunday (5th) at 11 am. The reason is to welcome, in addition to the night audience, children, families and people of all ages, following the model of American blues festivals that involve the community. Also, parking will be free and accessibility for PDE will be made available.
Tickets for the 1st edition of MDBFair are on sale at the event’s official website. The value is R$ 20 per day of the event or R$ 40 for the passport for the three days. Half-price is guaranteed for students and seniors, and admission is free for children up to 12 years old. There will also be a local box office on the days of the events.
