The municipality of Rio de Janeiro resumes today (10) the flu vaccination at health centers, after receiving 100,000 doses of the immunizing agent. According to the State Health Department, the city of Rio is experiencing an epidemic of influenza A (H3N2) and cases are also increasing in neighboring municipalities.
The Municipal Health Department recorded 23 thousand cases of the disease in recent weeks. Specific clinics to treat patients with flu have been opened in the city by both the state and the municipality.
“To face this epidemiological scenario, the Municipal Health Department has intensified the immunization campaign against flu in Rio de Janeiro, according to the availability of doses, and has opened a process to hire 350 health professionals to strengthen the care network municipal”, he informed, in a note. The secretariat added that care centers for patients with flu symptoms and viral testing will be opened in Alemão, Barra da Tijuca, Honório Gurgel and four other points of the city in the coming days.
